Norfolk Honey - apiaries - the woods

Honey comb ready for extraction

Apiary in the Woods

I have six hives in the woods.

They are a bit of a mixed bag with bees of different types taken there at different times.

One had to be rescued early in 2014 as I found it to be queenless on first inspection in March. Hopefully it is now united with a queen moved in from Postwick.

One hive has the Brundell bees that were moved out of Postwick in 2013.

Two hives have descendants from Lauren's swarm - Wymondham bees. One was very weak on first inspection 2014.

One has the daughter of a Greek/Buckfast queen - that was moved in from Sprowston as they were not nice.

One hive has a queen bred from a collection of queen cells isolated early 2012 when we had a hot March and every colony wanted to swarm at once.

The site has had as many as 12 hives there - but I think that is too many for the available forage and it now only has seven.

2014 I have moved all the hives ouyt of this site.
